The History of Methven Cottage, Est. 1905
Methven Cottage was originally built in 1905 and has been owned by four generations of one family since its inception. Situated on the western-most point of Timber Bay, previously known as Fairyport, on the southern shore of Fairy Lake, it has primarily been a family cottage but was also a bed & breakfast for a time.
While the original cottage burned down in the late 1920’s, the original boathouse stands to this day with a prominent ‘Methven 1905’ sign familiar to those who frequent Fairy Lake. The current cottage was built in the early 1930’s and pays homage to the true history of Muskoka summer homes with its wooden interior/exterior, floor to ceiling stone fireplace, and unique dutch door opening to the screened in porch.
Methven has been enhanced over the years with modern touches such as upgraded electrical capacity, appliances, and the addition of wireless internet, but it retains the classic Muskoka cottage rustic charm that is immediately felt by anyone who walks through its grand front door.
If you’re looking to spend your summer in a place that is rich in Muskoka history, Methven Cottage in Huntsville, ON awaits you.
